Why your educational establishment needs to recycle

New regulations will soon require your workplace or educational setting to separate from your non-recyclable/general waste. In this guide, we’ll explain what to do to prepare. You have until 31 March 2025 if you have ten or more full-time equivalent employees, or until 31 March 2027 deadline for fewer than ten. In this step, we’ll cover:

  • The benefits of recycling

  • How to comply with the new legislation

  • Checklist: what your educational setting needs to do

  • How to comply with the new education workplace recycling legislation

Having looked at the business case for recycling, it’s time to delve into the details of what the new legislation means for your organisation. Businesses and relevant non-domestic premises, such as educational settings, will need to separate dry recycling (except plastic film) and food waste for recycling by 31 March 2025. If you’re a smaller workplace/educational setting, with fewer than ten full-time employees, you’ve got until 31 March 2027, but it’s a good idea to take the opportunity to comply early – one less thing to worry about!
