Monitoring recycling services in your Transport and Storage business

Getting feedback from employees in the Transport and Storage sector

Estimated reading time: 1 min

To understand how well your new recycling service is working for your organisation, it’s useful to obtain feedback from employees in different roles, departments or at different locations, as well as caretakers and cleaners. You could send a short staff survey or install a feedback box near your recycling containers, as well as having a discussion in team meetings.

Ask them:

  • What (if any) issues have they experienced? – do they understand what can and can’t be recycled?

  • What’s working well? – are the recycling points located in the correct places?

  • What could be improved? – do you need more recycling points, or does signage need to be clearer?

As well as highlighting issues you may not have known about, involving employees in the conversation on all things recycling creates ‘buy in’, helping them to feel part of the change process.

Similarly, recognising that a lot of waste will be produced by customers using your services or facilities, it may be helpful to explore opportunities to ask your customers for feedback on your new recycling services. Like your employees, they may be able to flag up issues they’ve experienced when recycling on your premises. Pose the same questions to customers or passengers as those we’ve suggested for your employees.
