Where to site facilities

Ideally, bins should be located in a communal area that is easily accessible for all parties. Consideration of how the bins will be collected should also be made. An outside location that has access for waste collectors would be ideal.

Safety and security considerations should also be taken into account. In terms of security a fenced or gated compound with a lock prevents fly tipping or the general public using the bins incorrectly. Where this is not feasible the option of lockable bins is a potential option, but should be discussed with your waste collector.

Health and safety considerations should always be made when deciding where to locate bins: can bins be moved easily? are there any steps? is the area flat with no obstacles? is there appropriate lighting? etc. Clear signage for access and use should also be present.
